10 things to do in Paris
Ah, Paris: the greatest city in the world (sorry, London). What more could you want than to spend some time in this hallowed city, soaking up the glamour, culture and of course, French food? Luckily, all this is well within reach and a trip to the most romantic city in the world could be yours. All you need to do is enter (then win) our competition for a trip to Paris. If you do find yourself in this city, here are 10 things to keep you occupied.
1. Breakfast at a Boulangerie
Which establishment serves the best croissant is up for debate; the croissant’s status as the perfect breakfast treat, however, is not, which makes tasting a few patisseries’ offerings a worthy occupation. For what it’s worth, 134 Rdt has won awards with its own baked goods…
2. Peruse Les Passages Couverts
What would a trip to Paris be without at least an afternoon spent browsing the shops? Built in the 19th century, these glass-roofed passageways are the original shopping malls and now house antique shops, boutiques and cafés—a more affordable alternative to the likes of Chloé, Céline and Saint Laurent (though don’t let us stop you from frequenting these too).
3. Dine at L’Écailler du Bistrot
Essential for seafood lovers, the fresh oysters are a must and sure to get you into the proper Parisian spirit. Enjoy.
4. Visit Cimetière du Père-Lachaise
A cemetery? Morbid. A celebrity cemetery? Just the right side of sight-seeing. With its cobbled paths and beautiful, ornate tombs housing some of Paris’ most famous deceased residents, it is a fascinating place to visit and a worthy way to fritter away some time. Which is probably why it’s the most visited graveyard on the planet.
5. Make Saint-Germain-des-Prés a stop
The former haunt of the likes of Hemmingway, Simone de Beauvoir, Picasso and Sartre, read up on the history and then visit the cafés the former residents made famous.
6. Wander the Musée du Louvre
The world’s largest museum and home of the Mona Lisa, a trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of the city’s most historic landmarks, the Musée du Louvre. Schedule in enough time to enjoy it properly.
7. Catch a show at Le Crazy Horse Horse
What better way to spend an evening than watching a burlesque show and enjoying an avant-garde take on the erotic at the famous Le Crazy Horse. Dita Von Teese is just one of its former performers.
8. Tango in Paris
Gather at the Seine in the evening to tango the night away, or just join the other observers that gather there to see how it’s done and soak it all in.
9. Drink a cocktail at Bar Hemingway
Part cocktail bar, part homage to Hemingway; whichever way you look at it, the bar nestled in the Hotel Ritz is an essential stop if literary references and classic cocktails are your thing.
10. Climb the Eiffel Tower
After all, when in Paris…
